Sonja Nahanee is registered in the Squamish Nation, but has ties to Nanaimo and Tulalip through her paternal grandmother. She was raised in the village of xwmelchsten. Sonja was an Assistant Teacher for 2 years before making the switch to being an Indigenous support worker for 3 years this April. She was in culinary profession for 16 years before pursuing the education field. Sonja's hobbies include weaving, beading, and learning about Coast Salish history and the Squamish history.
