
Jonathan Colbert was born into a Theosophical family and grew up in a small mountain community near Los Angeles California. He currently resides in Julian California, a mountain community near San Diego.
At the United Lodge of Theosophists in San Diego he regularly gives talks under the auspices of the "Aquarian Series" a year-round, in-person and online lecture platform, the topics of which are based on an Aquarian Almanac designed by the late Shri Raghavan Iyer. The Aquarian Series, which Jonathan coordinates, regularly features speakers from the ULT, the TS, as well as other Theosophical groups. Jonathan also leads ongoing study groups at ULT San Diego in the Bhagavad Gita and The Secret Doctrine. At the Institute of World Culture in Santa Barbara, Jonathan has spoken on such topics as "The Ancient Temple University of Nalanda", "The Bodhisattva Ideal" and "Mysticism in the Writings of Ursula K. Le Guin".
Within the milieu of the Theosophical Society, Jonathan has presented on "Revering Nature: Towards a Theosophical Ecology" at Krotona, Ojai, CA, and "Meditation, Self-Study and the Therapeutics of Speech" at Adyar. He has spoken for the European School of Theosophy on the topic of "Metaphysics and Mystic Meditation" as well as for the England and Whales T.S. on the topics of "The Hidden Side of Nature" and "Shiva and Self-regeneration". He has spoken at the Brasilia Theosophical Institute on the topics of "The Gupta Vidya and Spiritual Evolution"; "Community and Buddhic Powers"; and "Individuation: Depth and Breath".
From 2016 to 2022, Jonathan served as an ITC board member. His life-long commitment to the study and exposition of Theosophical teaching is inclusive and welcomes the effort to bring Theosophists of all traditions together in conversation and learning. He has helped in the production of two Theosophical journals, Hermes (in the photo room) and Vidya (assistant editor) and has contributed articles to Vidya, Theosophy Forward and The Theosophist.
